GREEN CIRCLE The Green Circle Trail is a 30+ mile multi purpose, silent sport trail circling the communities of Stevens Point, Park Ridge, Whiting and Plover. Much of the trail is laid with crushed red granite that underlines the area. The trail travels along the Wisconsin and Plover Rivers highlighting the natural beauty and recalling the historical lore of the huge pineries and pioneer settlements. Many points of interest along the trail include historical sites and the UW-Stevens Point, Schmeeckle Reserve. The Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center is not only the headquarters for the Green Circle but has many natural history exhibits devoted to Wisconsin's conservation history and houses the Conservation Hall of Fame. The center is open weekly 8 am - 5 pm, Call: 715-346-4992 The Portage County Historical Society operates a visitor center at 1475 Water Street on the Green Circle near the downtown. They also operate a historical village site in Plover. Call 715-344-4423. The Green Circle has many branches but travel south down Hoover Avenue and it will take you to Lake Pacawa in Plover. Running just north along Cty Hwy B is the Tomorrow River State Trail which extends east to Iola. This Rails to Trails development has future plans to extend west to Marshfield and east to the Fox Cities. It cuts through open tall grass, wooded moraines, rural farmland and quite towns that once relied on the Soo Line and Wisconsin Central Rail Roads. www.stevenspoint.com/parkswww.co.portage.wi.uswww.uwsp.edu/cnr/schmeecklewww.pchswi.orgwww.uwsp.edu/museumwww.tomorrowriverstatetrail.orgwww.iceagetrail.org
